Symphony No.4, In E Minor  Op. 98

Brahms symphony in minor was first performed in 1885, publish during the following year, and played for the first time in America by the symphony society, in New York, and December 1886. Brahms was uncertain of the mirror of the work, and in fact seems to have been generally depressed but during the month of composition and the first few performances what he himself conducted. It is said that, just prior to beginning work on the fourth symphony, he study diligently, and had been deeply impressed by Sophocles' tragedy,"CEdipus"... And perhaps there is something of the grief and tear of that awesome work in certain portion of the symphony. That is not to say. That it is a symphony of gloom or melancholy. It is always thoughtful, sometimes philosophical, occasionally gay.. Nevermore bed, never depressing. Indeed, the magnificent fourth movement is cast in an ancient dance form. Symphony is scored for flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, contrabassoon, horns, trumpets, trombones, timpani (three), triangle, and the usual strings.

Good antique condition typical for it's age. These records have been in the same family, passed down from previous generations.
